WIFI Power Hour Recap: Spotlight Your Superpower

On August 18, 2025, the Women in the Floor Covering Industry (WIFI) community gathered for an inspiring Power Hour titled Spotlight Your Superpower. The event featured Whitney Welch, founder of Whitney Welch Creative Consulting, and was moderated by Erin West, director of commercial buying groups for AHF.

Welch led attendees through an engaging and interactive session focused on helping women identify, embrace, and leverage their unique strengths. She opened with a reminder that empathy, when paired with action, becomes compassion—and that small but intentional acts can create lasting impact. From there, she encouraged participants to think critically about their time management habits, sharing her own favorite tool, Kanban boards, as a way to turn endless to-do lists into visual progress. In a memorable exercise, she challenged everyone to cross off one nonessential item from their list for good—reminding the group that letting go can be just as empowering as getting things done.

The conversation also touched on the importance of presence and influence in the workplace. Welch explained how women can “gently command a room” by asking thoughtful questions, observing body language, and timing their contributions for maximum impact. She tied these lessons into a larger discussion on resiliency, using the example of flamingos losing their pink color after giving birth to illustrate how women can sometimes give so much of themselves that they lose their own vibrancy. Attendees were invited to text their closest circle of women for words that describe them, sparking a flood of affirmations like “loyal,” “courageous,” and “goal-oriented” that could be saved as reminders during challenging times.

As the Power Hour continued, Welch urged women to get clear on their true motivators—whether financial, relational, cultural, or impact-driven—and to communicate them directly to leaders. She also distinguished between authenticity, which should always be practiced, and transparency, which should be adapted based on audience and context. To close, she emphasized the value of forward thinking, encouraging attendees to step out of their comfort zones, delegate effectively, and use tools like AI to free up time for strategy and vision.

The session concluded with a strong call to action, as Welch highlighted the importance of owning one’s strengths with confidence and intention. Attendees left with practical strategies they could apply immediately and a renewed sense of purpose—ready to leverage their unique skills to drive impact, lead effectively, and create value within their organizations.
